The Music Cognition and Action program in the MARCS Institute for Brain, Behaviour and Development is seeking an outstanding researcher to complement and strengthen investigations on the neurophysiological mechanisms underlying
perception and action, and sensorimotor entrainment in particular.
The MARCS Institute for Brain, Behaviour and Development is an interdisciplinary research institute of the Western Sydney University, Australia. Research at MARCS is
conducted in five interdisciplinary research programs: Biomedical Engineering & Neuroscience, Human-Machine Interaction, Multisensory Communication, Music Cognition & Action and Speech & Language. MARCS is located on the Bankstown, Campbelltown, Kingswood
and Parramatta campuses.
The postdoctoral research fellow will conduct research as part of the ARC Discovery project entitled “Effects of audio-visual rhythmic stimulation on motor functioning” and will advance our knowledge of how motor responses
are modulated on short and long-term scales by environmental auditory and visual rhythms. The neurophysiological mechanisms underlying sensorimotor entrainment as well as the properties of auditory and visual rhythms (e.g., musical and/or biological) that
modulate the nature and magnitude of motor responses elicited will be investigated with Electroencephalography (EEG) and Electromyography (EMG).
We are seeking an energetic, forward thinking, dynamic, and innovative scholar to take up this postdoctoral research fellowship. The successful applicant is expected to be developing a strong international standing and
research reputation, based on an excellent research background in this field.
This position is a full time, 18 month fixed term contract and is based at the Bankstown campus.
