[AUDITORY] Australian PhD position on neural mechanisms underlying sensory-motor entrainment to rhythms

Australian PhD position on neural mechanisms underlying sensory-motor entrainment to rhythms

The MARCS Institute for Brain, Behaviour and Development in Sydney (Australia) invites applications from highly motivated Australian or overseas graduates seeking to undertake a PhD supervised by Dr Manuel Varlet, Professor Peter Keller and Dr Sylvie Nozaradan.

The project will be conducted within the Music Cognition & Action (MCA) program and is funded by the Australian Research Council and Western Sydney University. The PhD research will use electroencephalography (EEG) to investigate the neural mechanisms underlying auditory-motor and/or visuo-motor entrainment, as well as the properties of perceptual and motor rhythms modulating the occurrence and strength of entrainment. Effects of entrainment on the motor system will also be investigated.

Applicants should hold an Australian First Class Bachelor Honours degree, OR equivalent qualifications and/or research experience (including research publications) in a field such as psychology, cognitive neuroscience or movement science. Programing skills (e.g., Matlab or C++) as well as previous experience with EEG would be desirable.

International applicants must also demonstrate a high level of proficiency in the English language.

Potential applicants can contact Dr Manuel Varlet (m.varlet@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx), Professor Peter Keller (p.keller@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx) or Dr Sylvie Nozaradan (s.nozaradan@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx) to discuss the proposed research.

Applications should be sent preferably before April 21st, 2017 to the Graduate Research School, but later applications will be considered until the position is filled.
