Survey: Chord Progression Generation System

Dear colleagues,



We are developing an Automatic Chord Progression Generation System. This model makes use of a number of automatically extracted music parameters, namely harmonic rhythm, harmonic transitions and harmonic structures to characterize musical styles. This model is then used by our autonomous algorithm to generate symbolic chord progressions based on the characterized style.



The main hypothesis of the proposed work is that the system is able to learn style-based composition rules, and replicate them in the generated progressions. The aim of this survey is to evaluate if the style replication process is successfully performed and the chord progression generated can be misled with the ones created by real human composers.
