PhD/PostDoc Position in Computational Auditory Modeling

The Department of Medical Physics and Acoustics at Oldenburg University, Germany has a position available for:

1 PhD or Post-Doc in Modeling the source generators of auditory evoked potentials.

The PhD position is available from October 2015 for 3 years and payment depends on previous experience (German TV-L E13, 65%). The post-doc position is available for a duration of 21 months (TV-L E13, 100%; the full position can be split). (http://oeffentlicher-dienst.info for information on salary).

The project aims at modeling the source generators of auditory evoked potentials by improving computational auditory models to account for characteristic properties of these population responses. Model evaluation will be based on using EEG (electroencephalography). The project is part of the DFG Priority program: Ultrafast and temporally precise information processing, which offers an attractive networking and collaboration environment (www.pp1608.com). The host institute offers a unique research environment with excellent research facilities and a large network of auditory scientists working on physiological, behavioral and modeling aspects of hearing as well as on hearing devices (www.hearing4all.eu).

The ideal candidate must hold an academic university degree (Master or PhD) in engineering, physics, neuroscience, acoustics, machine learning or similar with a background in (biomedical) signal processing. Prior experience with auditory modeling is a plus. Programming skills in Matlab, Python or other lower level programming languages are required as the project deals with computational auditory models and large multi-channel data sets. Oral and written English skills are essential and basic knowledge of German is a plus.

Applications should include a CV, cover letter expressing your interest and qualification for the position, contact details or recommendation letters from two referees. For the PhD position an electronic copy of your Master thesis and an academic transcript of Bsc and MSc education are required. For the Post-Doc position, a copy of the PhD thesis or most important scientific publications are required and the PhD transcript (if already available). Evaluation of applications will begin on August 25th 2015.

Electronic submission preferred: sarah.verhulst@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, or regular mail: Sarah Verhulst, Carl von Ossietzky University, Carl-von-Ossietzky Strasse 9-11, 26129 Oldenburg

Inquiries about the position: Prof. Dr. Sarah Verhulst (www.uni-oldenburg.de/pmoap)

The University of Oldenburg strives to increase the proportion of women in science. So we especially encourage female candidates to apply. Handicapped applicants will be given preference if equally qualified.
