workshop on music and dementia care

Dear all,

Invitation to Music and Dementia Care Workshop

We are pleased to invite you to our half-day workshop on Music and Dementia Care, which is a cooperation between IPEM (department of Musicology, Ghent University, Belgium) and NCA (department of Neuropsychology and Auditory Cognition, Lille 3 University, France). The focus is on constraints and requirements specific to studies involving people with dementia. The workshop aims at (1) a better understanding of the key principles for designing studies for people with neurodegenerative diseases and (2) gaining wider knowledge of how and why music-related activity in care giving centers work. In this workshop we bring together researchers from systematic musicology and neuropsychology and auditory cognition that recently conducted studies in care giving centers in Belgium and France, addressing these issues from different perspectives. Presenters are: Séverine Samson (Neuropsychology and Auditory Cognition, University of Lille, Inst. Univ. de France and Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital, Paris, France); Nathalie Ehrlé, Neuropsychology and Auditory Cognition, University of Lille, France and University Hospital of Reims, France; Micheline Lesaffre, IPEM, department of Musicology, Ghent University, Belgium and Frank Desmet IPEM, department of Musicology, Ghent University, Belgium.
