*** CALL FOR REGISTRATION ***

York Software Bootcamp for Audio and Music Researchers

University of York
September 13-15, 2012

http://soundsoftware.ac.uk/york2012-bootcamp

**** Registration Deadline: 31 July 2012 ***

The SoundSoftware and Software Carpentry projects are
organising a three-day bootcamp on software development,
during the week preceding the DAFx conference.

The course is aimed at postgraduate students and other
scientists who are familiar with basic programming concepts
(like loops, conditionals, arrays, and functions) but need
help to translate this knowledge into practical tools to
help them work more productively. In this three-day boot
camp, short tutorials will alternate with hands-on practical
exercises.

** Agenda **

The first two days of the boot camp will cover the Software
Carpentry syllabus, which will include:

* using the shell to do more in less time
* using version control to manage and share information
* basic Python programming
* how (and how much) to test programs
* working with relational databases

The third day will focus on audio and music research
software, with an emphasis on exploring how to apply the
skills learned in the first two days.

** Registration **

Registration is free. The registration deadline is the 31st
of July, the same as the deadline for DAFx. Registration
confirmations will be sent out by the 7th of August.
