Colette Mckay [mailto: Apologies for cross-listing Dear List, We have three studentships currently advertised for PhD
study in hearing at Please disseminate to students who may be interested. ‘Assessing benefit from bilateral versus
unilateral hearing aid fittings’: This project will address the lack of
evidence of real-world benefit from bilateral hearing aid fitting and identify
individuals for whom the drawbacks of a bilateral fitting would outweigh the
advantages. http://www.mhs.manchester.ac.uk/postgraduate/research/funding/facultystudentships/psychsci/asimpson ‘Developing cortical auditory evoked potentials
(CAEP) as a tool for assessment of hearing status in infants with Auditory
Neuropathy Spectrum Disorder (ANSD)’: This project will investigate the
usefulness and reliability of CAEP as a tool for objective assessment of
hearing thresholds in infants with ANSD. First, the effects of different sleep
states and stimuli on the CAEP response in normally hearing infants will be
determined. Then, using optimised conditions, the usefulness of CAEP in
assessing hearing thresholds and function in infants with ANSD will be
investigated http://www.mhs.manchester.ac.uk/postgraduate/research/funding/facultystudentships/psychsci/kuus ‘The measurement of basilar-membrane
nonlinearity as a diagnostic technique’ : This project will develop
clinically-effective techniques to assess cochlear function related to the type
of hair cell loss. These diagnostic techniques will provide important
information to optimise the fitting of hearing aids. http://www.mhs.manchester.ac.uk/postgraduate/research/funding/facultystudentships/psychsci/rbaker Here is the link to academic and residential
