Re: experimental design program - Macs
Our laboratory is looking for a good program for running auditory
experiments on Macintosh computers (alternatives to PsyScope). We would
like a program that is relatively intuitive and easy to learn. Any
suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
it depends on the kind of experiment you want to run. For example,
whether you want to run experiments with fixed stimuli (i.e., all
stimuli are preset before the experiment) or "adaptive" experiments
(i.e., experiments that use adaptive psychophysical procedures where the
stimulus is selected as a function of the subject's response).
If your target is to run adaptive experiments I recommend MATLAB. It is
not easy to use but you can do everything with it. In addition there are
already toolboxes that implement some adaptive procedure such as MLP
(opsss, self advertising) that are easy to use:
Check the following link if you are interested. The toolbox is free:

If your target is to run fixed-stimuli experiments... well I have not
specific suggestions but I use MATLAB also for this kind of experiments.
I hope this helps,
m
ps: if there already any MLP user out there. We are now working on a new
version of the toolbox. It will be out soon. Moreover, we are extending
the toolbox to the transformed up-down and to the PEST procedure.
