AW: the seven wonders of hearing

I seem to remember that  A. R. Cody's 1992 paper 
"Acoustic lesions ..." (Hear Res 62: 166-172), 
demonstrating that the active-OHC region was only 0.5 mm
long (basal slope of active peak; guinea pigs) created
considerable astonishment.

active effect only within about a half-octave range,
consistent with experimental data.  No specific restriction
is needed to get this behavior.
