DEVELOPER/RESEARCHER POSITION in Computer Music

Applications are invited for a two-year position in the Music Technology
Group (MTG), Technology Department at the Pompeu Fabra University,
Barcelona, Spain, commencing immediately. The position will give the
opportunity to write a Ph.D. thesis.
This post is part of ProSeMus, a three-year research project funded by the
Spanish Ministry of Science and Education. The project is aimed at the
development of models and tools for the semantic analysis and processing
of music. The successful applicant will be involved in the development of
systems for expressive performance of music, and performance-based
interpreter identification using algorithms and machine learning
techniques developed within the project.
Candidates for this post are expected to have a Masters degree in one of
the following areas: Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or
Mathematics. Candidates with a background in Psychology, Cognitive
Science, or Music Theory may be considered as well provided that they have
a solid background in Computer Science. Strong candidates with a BA or BSc
in a related topic and proven experience in the field of computer music
may be also considered for the post. The candidate should demonstrate
solid programming skills (e.g. in C++, Matlab, Python) and at least a
basic knowledge of music theory, Signal Processing and Machine Learning,
or a high motivation to quickly get acquainted with relevant aspects of
these fields
The Music Technology Group, with around 50 researchers and led by Xavier
Serra, is one of the world's largest and most dynamic academic research
centers for music technology. Among other fields, the group has gained
reputation for Sound Synthesis, Music Information Retrieval, and
Interactive Music. The lab is located in a historic building right in
between the old town of Barcelona and the sea.
