TWO RESEARCHER POSITIONS IN MUSIC COGNITION
Department of Music, University of Jyväskylä, Finland
Applications are invited for two researcher positions in Music Cognition
1. Post-doc researcher within the project "Tuning the Brain for Music"
The aim of the project, funded by EU, is to develop and validate
methods for automatic music analysis that can be used, among others,
in extracting emotion-inducing features in music.
The applicant would be expected to hold a PhD in psychology,
computing, musicology or a related discipline. Exceptionally
qualified candidates not yet holding a doctoral degree will also be
considered. Expertise in the area of music cognition, music and
emotion, programming (Matlab, Max, C++) and/or music analysis would
be an advantage.
The post is tenable from January 1, 2007, though an earlier
appointment is possible. The initial appointment will be for 12 to 24
months. Renewal of the appointment will be contingent upon the
availability of adequate funding and performance.
2. Doctoral student/Post-doc researcher within the project "Music,
Movement, Gesture"
The project is funded by the Academy of Finland and studies the
relationship between physical and musical gestures. More
specifically, it investigates movement in relation to conductors'
gestures, inter-musician communication, corporeal synchronization,
music therapy, and emotional expression. Methods include optical
motion capture, computational music analysis (Music Information
Retrieval), computational modelling of gestures, and behavioural
experiments.
The applicant would be expected to hold a degree in psychology,
physiology, computing, musicology or a related discipline. Expertise
in the area of computational modelling, motorics, and/or kinematics
would be an advantage.
The post is tenable from January 1, 2007, though an earlier
appointment is possible. The initial appointment will be for 18
months. Renewal of the appointment will be contingent upon the
availability of adequate funding and performance.
