Well, suppose you hear a melody, and then imagine it for a while
thereafter; would that not be nonspeech auditory rehearsal?
Tasks such as that certainly seem to involve dorsolateral and
ventrolateral frontal cortices known to be involved in working memory,
along with auditory cortex (even in the absence of sound), analogously
to visual cortex involvement in visual imagery.
