Position Title: Technical Project Manager
Faculty/Unit: Schulich School of Music - CIRMMT
Reporting to: Director of CIRMMT

Salary scale: $52,978-$71,592

Position Context

Responsible for the technical management, development and maintenance of the scientific and creative research laboratories and studios to ensure cutting edge technological advancement in interdisciplinary research in music media and technology. Performs conceptual and practical work in digital audio, video and network technologies, sound recording, audio production and post-production, and electrical and computer engineering. Provides technical support and training for users of CIRMMT's facilities. Represents CIRMMT to internal and external interests. Prepares and monitors budgets. Supervises support staff.

Key Roles

Provide consulting expertise to the University community and high level audio and video systems support and services that enhance and maintain the University's existing systems. Supervise support staff and the daily administrative operations of the unit. Set standards for level of unit services and provide administrative direction regarding the unit's goals and objectives. Apply specialized skills and technical knowledge to prioritize, plan and monitor activities. Develop and implement procedures and/or controls to enhance the operation of the unit and provide administrative direction regarding the unit's goals and objectives. Act as advisor to unit members regarding University policies and procedures. Troubleshoot, assess and resolve problems requiring specialized skills and technical knowledge. Provide advice to unit members on problem resolution. When appropriate, inform supervisor. Participate in the implementation of policies and new initiatives that support the strategic direction of a faculty/department/unit by keeping abreast of new developments and trends in the field audio and video technologies.

Education & Experience

Undergraduate degree (Music technology, sound recording, audio engineering or related field)
Three (3) years' related experience


Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities

Experience in 2D CAD (preferably AutoCAD). Extensive knowledge and experience in comprehensive audio and video production. Extensive experience in the design and management of relevant dBase languages (i.e. FilemakerPro, SQL). Proven interpersonal style that fosters constructive and productive relationships with diverse clients and colleagues. Client-focused and communication skills. Proven organizational and problem-solving skills, focus on accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to plan, prioritize and manage multiple projects with tight deadlines. English, spoken and written; French, spoken.
