Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Psychology for Media Arts and Sciences
The Arts, Media and Engineering Program (AME) (http://ame.asu.edu ) and
the Psychology Department (http://www.asu.edu/clas/psych) at Arizona
State University are announcing an opening for a tenure-track,
assistant professor in psychology for media arts and sciences.
AME is a joint program of the Fulton School of Engineering (FSE) and
the Herberger College of Fine Arts (HCFA). The goal of AME is
transdisciplinary research and education in the integrated development
of experiential media systems. The program has established its own
graduate interdisciplinary curriculum which includes AME concentrations
in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Dance,
Music, Theater and Visual Arts and is adding concentrations in
Psychology, Bioengineering, Education and Kinesiology. AME has
state-of-the-art media facilities.
The Department of Psychology is among the largest and most popular
departments on the Tempe campus, with 51 faculty, nearly 120 graduate
students and over 1700 undergraduate majors that participate across six
basic training areas. The mission of the department is to foster an
environment that both promotes innovative, cutting edge research and
involves students at all levels of the University. Faculty and
students are actively involved with a number of centers, institutes and
research groups on campus that promote transdisciplinary approaches to
issues of local and national significance, affording outstanding
research and training experiences that extend beyond traditional
disciplinary boundaries
The successful candidate will contribute significantly to the joint
AME/Psychology research and education efforts on perception and
modeling of experiential media systems and will strengthen the
collaboration of the two programs. These efforts will be integrated
with the work of the five key AME research areas: sensing; perception
and modeling; feedback and interaction; experiential construction; and
learning and knowledge. The appointee will mentor students in the
Psychology/AME concentration and co-mentor students in the other
concentrations. The teaching assignment will include specialized
courses in multimodal perception and cognition for media, dynamic
modeling as well as other related psychology courses. Three-fourths of
the appointment will be with AME and one-fourth with Psychology.
Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in Psychology OR Media Arts and
Sciences OR closely related field and a scholarly record in psychology
with emphasis on media applications.
Desired Qualifications: Interdisciplinary experience in research
spanning Psychology and Media Arts and Sciences; teaching experience at
the university level; leadership experience; evidence of funded
research; effective communication skills.
