Presentation version 0.71
Auditory list members may be interested in the version 0.71 release of
Presentation, a Windows program that uses high-precision computer gaming
technology for precise stimulus delivery and experiment control. Version
0.71 adds a turbo sound mixer written by NBS specifically to overcome
limitations in the Windows OS. Version 0.71 has the following features:
a) Low latency (sub-ms) sound playback on all systems including
Windows XP and 2000
b) Extremely high precision (low jigger) for sound events – typically
< 0.1ms.
c) 8, 16, and 24 bit audio modes
d) Automatic conversion of sound types (e.g., 16 to 24-bit).
e) Precise control over Windows volume controls that can be preset for
any experiment.
f) Individual control of up to 8 speakers (depending on the sound card)
g) The capability of independently mixing more than 50 sound streams
h) Precise control of USB sound cards
i) The capability of generating tones and complex tones at runtime
j) A Matlab interface for more complex runtime stimulus creation
k) Programmable data analysis
NBS has also released an audiometry utility, to help you get thresholds,
check headphone balance, quickly verify systems settings, and perform sound
calibration, as well as demonstrations of runtime tone synthesis, and
multi-speaker control. Once you calibrate your sound system you can specify
stimuli in SL, nHL, or SPL intensities from within Presentation.
More than 7,000 scientists have downloaded Presentation more than 21,000
times. 49.7% of Presentation® users rate it “outstanding” or “excellent”;
