Condenser mics have a long history of use as sound sources in
hearing research.   The same flat and predictable frequency
response that makes them good mics also makes them good
sources.  However, they are as big a pain to drive as sources as
they are to use as mics, since they typically need a 200V bias
voltage.  Unless you need frequency response far above 20 kHz,
you would want a 1/2" model (B&K or ACO).  These are not
cheap, and will require a custom-machined coupler, but can
produce clean loud sound.
