I agree that there is few things totally new in wavelet theory,
among them most notably the possibility to construct orthogonal bases
of compact support, which are very interesting for data compres-
sion/coding and for efficient numerical algorithms. This is of minor
concern for the auditory scene analysis community, though. However,
I think that some issues (re-)appearing in wavelet theory can still
be instructive, among them being the theory of frames for enhanced
near-perfect reconstruction or methods for singularity detection
and characterization.
