Abstract:
The use of computer animation in the study and understanding of sound propagation is demonstrated. Several brief audio/video demonstrations are given to illustrate the spatial-temporal features of sound propagation in complicated environments. Each demonstration is preceded by a summary of the theoretical aspects of the particular propagation problem, followed by the audio/video illustration of the situation. It is shown that sound animation can be a powerful training tool in understanding sound propagation, and for optimizing performance of underwater and seismic sound systems.
