The transition from a discrete spectrum of higher harmonics to a broadband power spectrum has been observed with a wire probe (as regards the frequency spectrum) and imaging of the surface (as regards the wave-number spectrum). By use of laser scattering techniques we hope to obtain an absolute calibration of the surface motion in this very far-off equilibrium state.
